Move to the UK Checklist (in 9 Months or Less)
Move to the UK Checklist: Before You Leave
The Move to the UK Checklist is one-half of the Ultimate Checklist and covers what to do before you leave. The other half of the Ultimate Checklist is what to do after you arrive in the UK.
We made a New Year’s resolution on 1 January 2016 to move to the UK in September 2016. We gave ourselves 9 months to relocate as a family of four (mum, dad and two kids). We succeeded, so we know it can be done. Moving to the UK in as little as 3 months is possible. It will depend on your circumstances.
How to use the Move to the UK Checklist
Moving overseas is a major project, so a simple checklist of ‘sell your stuff’, ‘save money, ‘pack your bags’ … the plan won’t cut it. You need to consider what to do as well as how, when and where you can get information and assistance.
After finishing this post series, I’ll prepare a simplified checklist (one or two pages) that doesn’t have much detail. I’m hoping to be done in the coming months. The simplified checklist will probably have a tick box for things like ‘Get UK Visa’, ‘Get a quote from furniture removals company’ and ‘Book flights’.
